Character Information
Name: YoRHa No.2 Type B (Battle)- or more simply, 2B.
Series: NieR: Automata
Appearance: I can't wait to give her pants.
Age: I'm really sorry but she could be five years old, she could be over a hundred. We just don't fucking know, though physically, she appears to be in her 20s.

Canon Point: Post-death.
Canon History: Personal History is here, but I'm gonna try and...sum the story as a whole a little better because this game is A Lot. And it's also super difficult to explain so HOORAH!

--Spoilers for the whole game from here!--

Automata follows the story of the original Nier and the Drakengard series; namely, the consequences of these games. An epidemic leads to the extinction of the human race, despite many desperate attempts to outlive it. Just to mix things up a little, an alien invasion begins at the very end of the human race's lifespan, resulting in a war that far exceeds the lives involved.

What does live on are androids and machines, creations of humans and aliens. Both sides warred for thousands of years, however, the tide began to turn. Androids were originally created to protect and serve humans, and with humans no longer in the picture, more and more were beginning to become devoid of purpose.

In the Nier Automata Concert, it's revealed that an android named Zinnia, alongside the military, created a new project in order to give all androids purpose- project YoRHa. The project was intended to ensure that all androids continued to have purpose, spreading and reinforcing the lie that humans were alive and well on the moon. In addition to this, new android lifeforms were created, using technology taken directly from machines. These units were far more capable in battle, in addition to being considered disposable. Made with parts of the enemy, they weren't truly androids. Thus, they weren't treated as such. Given letter and number designations, rather than names, each YoRHa unit is made to be detonated and destroyed after serving out their use.

2B is one such android.

Whilst it's unknown when 2B was originally created, her original designation as a Type E (Executioner) gives light to her true purpose, one that isn't revealed until late in the third playthrough of the game. 2B was, and is, an executioner. When other YoRHa units become aware that YoRHa is a sham, her duty is to dispatch of them quickly, ensuring that all androids still consider their lives of value... and their war worth fighting.

This purpose eventually leads her to be partnered with a Scanner android named 9S; a new type of Scanner purposefully programmed with an innate sense of curiosity. Whilst this means he's better at his job, it also means he's a little too good, a risk that the higher YoRHa officials were well aware of. Whilst partnered with him, 2B's true purpose is to ensure that when (not if) he becomes aware of YoRHa's true purpose, he is dispatched of promptly. She is then required to fully reset his memories back to their original 'just out of the box' state, to allow for the trial of this new prototype to continue.

And thus she dispatches him. For three years.

Unfortunately for 2B, 9S is a likable person. The two are often the only constants in a barren world, and debatably weeks, even months pass between each necessary dispatch. 2B's duty quickly becomes agony for her. Unable to keep distanced from 9S, she shows significant reluctance, then blunt refusal of her duty, to the point of emotionally breaking down each time her role requires her to make short work of 9S.

Three years of continuing to destroy 9S lead into the events of the game itself, with 2B and 9S directed to a machine factory in order to destroy a Goliath-class (big boi) machine. Their eventual success in this mission results in the two once again being partnered, though the event itself is likely staged near entirely for 9S' sake.

The two then get up to a whole bunch of shenanigans that include, but are not exclusively; fetch-quests, watching robots pretend to have sex, watching robots give birth, going to the circus, destroying an opera singer, being weirded out by pacifists, finding out aliens are extinct, fighting the machine they saw getting born (and the machine that grew out of his stomach), going window shopping, invading a kingdom, reliving the events of Pearl Harbor (but with robots), killing the machine they saw getting born, and killing the machine that grew out of his stomach. In these periods, 9S also discovers humans are extinct and some other plot stuff that essentially just isn't relevant to 2B at all so fuck that.

After killing baby and baby's baby, two machines who were essential parts of the machine's communication hivemind, YoRHa initiates a heavy assault on the surface to push back against machines, only for shit to go super wrong, super fast. Robots, now even more wild and off-kilter than before (they're cannibals now!) surprise the YoRHa forces with an EMP attack that infects them all with a virus, slowly turning each unit insane-- and turning them against their own kind.

Unaffected by the initial assault, 2B and 9S rush back to home base, only to find that the entire place has been infected. Grabbing a couple of Obligatory Anime Jetbots, the two fuck off, watching in horror as the YoRHa base explodes into nothing-- and with it, any possibility of the two being repaired if damaged or, in worst case scenarios, being capable of uploading their memories to new bodies.

Attempting to rush back to safety, the two are ambushed by the remaining YoRHa forces- all infected, all hellbent on obliterating the two survivors. 2B convinces 9S to allow her control of his Obligatory Anime Jetbot, cloaking him and sending him off to safety as her own Jetbot takes the full blast of the attack. 2B goes down hard- and worse, she comes to infected with the virus.

In probably the most horrific fucking gameplay possible, 2B slowly loses her hearing, eyesight, ability to fight, and ability to do more than just kind of...hobble as she attempts to get herself far away from any other androids, afraid that she'll simply take down others with her. She is "saved" by an old YoRHa unit known as A2- a defector of YoRHa who is uninfected. To her, 2B relinquishes both her sword and memories, begging A2 to keep 9S safe... and asking her to finish her off before she joins the virus-driven hoards that used to be her fellow soldiers.

A2 does as she asks, impaling 2B on her own sword. As 2B crumples to the ground, it's to the screams of a horrified 9S.

She dies with his name as her final word.

Personality:
Upon originally getting introduced to 2B, her distant and formal manner of approaching others can seem offputting and even cliche. 2B is curt in her wordage, seemingly embodying all aspects of a good YoRHa soldier. Emotions are forbidden, she reminds 9S, over and over. All orders from her superiors go unquestioned, even when 9S finds vast holes in the motivations provided to them.

Despite this, however, 2B herself puts her emotions on display often. In her "first" meeting with 9S (the first meeting the player witnesses), she becomes frantically distraught over his injuries, breaking the frosty caricature and seemingly rule-bent nature she usually exhibits. Over and over, 2B shows spots of emotion throughout her journey- points of frustration, of confusion, of sadness. Even rage and affection, though the former far exceeds the latter as to how often it's portrayed.

It's not until one understands her true purpose that her personality begins to make a lot more sense- more than anything, 2B is purposefully aloof from the world. Unable to afford connections with others, her ability to remain direct, yet formal can and has been mistaken as a dedication to the battlefield, though more than anything, it's a personal means of protection.

Being a Type E is to be a double-edged sword-- in more ways than one. Not only must she remain aloof from those around her, as every friend she makes is simply another body that could be swinging from the end of her sword, but her very existence ties into caring enough to preserve android's current way of life- caring enough to do her duty, and maintain a lie that inspires purpose. There are definite hints to how exhausted and frustrated her roles makes her; the YoRHa's mission statement, glory to mankind gains a quietly clenched fist near the very beginning of the game, in addition to her opening dialogue that muses over the kind of god that would create beings such as herself... and whether or not she'll ever have the chance to kill him.

These little hints not only portray just how exhausted she is by the start of the game, but just how far she is willing to go for those around her. 2B is not inherently aggressive by nature; in one section of the game, ignoring an enemy 9S insists should be taken out due to providing the enemy with too great a weapon has her stating that since the enemy isn't doing anything to harm her, there's no reason she should harm them. She appears to have a much easier time accepting that some machines do not wish to fight, assisting them with a variety of sidequests with the same dedication she provides to fellow androids. In contrast to 9S, she has endless patience for even the smallest request, as she deems every small thing she does for others as beneficial to the people around her.

Her final words simply add more credence to just how much of 2B, her personality, and her role have shaped her into thinking of others. Aside from asking A2 to care for 9S, she also begs for the rogue android to take care of everyone- just as she has been attempting to do within the scope of her own role.

9S is by and large the closest person to 2B, a fact that causes many difficulties for her. As mentioned above, she comes to abhor her duty of killing him over and over, to the point where she's only willing to do so because 9S himself asks her to be the one to do so. In game, ending A and B see her once again forced to take his life- an action that she opts to do with her bare hands, rather than rely upon any other weapon. As she cries over his corpse, she laments that it always... ends like this... marking 9S not only are the greatest destructive force to her sense of self and attempts at emotional safety, but the grim motivation to continue that cycle.

By nature, 2B is bemused by most things human. From discovering cosmetics to learning more about how humans lived in apartments, most things human simply gain an idle comment from either her or 9S about just how odd humans really are. To the player, this can easily be perceived as naivety, rather than a stark indication of just how removed the world 2B comes from is removed from our daily lives. That being said... she loves fishing.

Abilities:

I'm going to preface this with I'm sorry.

THE STRAIGHTFOWARD SHIT

2B primarily uses weaponry to deal out her attacks, spanning from light weapons- short swords and daggers- to heavy ones -long swords, two-handed axes, javelins, etc. Attacks usually occur in short combinations which primarily just sum up to wow this lolita-esque binch good with a sword. Past that, her physical aptitude also includes:
Jumping into the air and staying up whilst doing a few slashy slash combos, or using a heavy weapon to dive down on enemies below her. It's physical and basic.
Evading enemies is visually presented by the area around 2B going grey as she speeds up a little, with a blue glow surrounding her. The boost moves her approximately 6 feet in a given direction, whilst also given a very short window of invincibility frames. Considering the short range of movement I'd recommend a simple exhaustion caveat.
Perfect evasion is a pretty way of saying a perfectly timed dodge, portrayed by 2B splitting into multiple holographs of herself. Attacking during this causes a counterattack, which is still basic stuff. Again, just ties into the exhaustion caveat above.
Finisher does a flashy final attack on downed enemies. It looks pretty. That's about all it does.

THE BULLSHIT
❈ Every YoRHa unit comes with what is known as a Pod; a smaller assist bot that acts as your ranged weapon. Each pod comes with a basic attack, either bullets or missiles, in addition to being equipped with special abilities, such as a giant hammer, a bigger, more fuck off laser, and more. Since these pods can easily be argued as being appable characters in their own right, 2B will not be coming in with a Pod unit. For her, the main irritant will be having to find a way to carry her own weapons, as Pods usually act as carriers for swords and other things when not in use.

Plug-in Chips act as ability enhancers, allowing for more defense, offense, healing abilities, bonuses to combos, and more. The amount of chips one can equip is limited to the amount of storage space an android's CPU has, and most don't really translate well to rp, since all they add is a little bit of additional damage or defense. For ease, I'm just focusing on the few I'd like to bring that do translate in-game or require nerfs:
OS Chip is 2B's operating system! It's... tweaked a little in YoRHa units, and causes immediate self-destruction if removed. I'd like to nerf the self-destruction aspect of the chip, but in place, state that removal of the chip will count as a death to 2B.

HUD: Mini-map is as one might think, providing a very basic outline of the areas traveled until further information is unlocked from stations found within the area. Automata's maps are... literally the worst and not even remotely intuitive, so I'd like to keep retention of 2Bs ability to use this for basic layouts of areas uncovered that she's traveled to. The map is super basic, so it'd give her a basic outline of land and show blocks where buildings are... and that's about it, really.

HUD: Sound Waves is... it's sound waves. If anything, the best this would give to 2B is a slight advantage on when enemies are approaching, so she'd be less liable to being caught unawares, or in an ambush.

Auto-heal begins to heal 2B at 18% of hr overall health per second, so long as she has not been struck in the last six seconds. I'd like to keep this, but nerf it down pretty extensively so that it allows for healing of minor wounds over a 1-2 hour period, whilst having no effect on more extensive damage or mortal wounds. So a few scrapes and cuts will heal, but she's not gonna regrow an arm or anything.

❈ All other chips are ultimately cosmetic in this setting, or in the case of some that cause time to slow or give a chance of revival after death, aren't coming along for the ride.
THE NERFED SHIT
❈ Every YoRHa unit comes equipped with a self-destruct, 2B being no exception. Outside of one plot-specific area, 2B's self destruct does massive damage to her and any enemies around her, leaving 2B at 1HP and shutting down the vast majority of her functions for a while-- in addition to removing her skirt. Dat ass. Tbh I've never used it in-game except out of curiosity and I see no way of channeling it not to hurt innocents around her, so let's just nerf it outright.

Black boxes retain the memory of each unit and also act as the reactor core that allows for units to function. When combined with another black box, they ultimately cause- a nuclear reaction, literally obliterating anything and everything around them in an area that spans approximately half a kilometer in diameter. Just in case 2B does get some castmates in future, I'd like to nerf this reaction outright.

Inventory:
It should be noted that usually, items are stored by Pods. Thus, these items will either be...discarded around 2B, or stashed in her new backpack when she arrives.

Virtuous Contract, a short sword. It's a normal sword!
Virtuous Treaty, a heavy sword. It's a normal sword!
Machine Axe, a two-handed axe. I know you're usually only allowed to have two weapons equipped but blease let me have this, blease.

❈ A blue ribbon- for 2B's hair uwu

❈ 10 x Medium Recovery - restores 50% of health. Since 2B is nonorganic, I'd like to restrict her healing items to healing only other machine playable characters, rather than working on them fleshy peeps.

❈ 5 x Volt-proof Salve - protects the user from electrical damage for 30 seconds.

Choice Satchet; makes animals unafraid of you, approach you, and wait for you. I'd like to translate this effect to a plus or minus 2 to 2B's first attempt to tame a companion.

toothbrush. It's probably the oldest, grossest toothbrush on the planet but by god I'm bringing it anyway

❈ A lone and mighty pen.

❈ HUD: Mini-map, HUD: Sound Wave, OS-chip, and Auto-Heal chips, as specified above. She likely also has a few attack and defense chips on her that are pretty negligible rp-wise; happy to say those are waterlogged for ease.
